Bianca Leigh’s Broadway glow-up, 40 years in the making, is long overdue

Talk about a plot twist: In the early 1980s, while studying for her BFA in theater at Rutgers University, Bianca Leigh’s acting professor told her that coming out of any closet would be the demise of her career. Cut to 2025—Leigh, now 62, is the scene-stealing star of Broadway’s runaway hit comedy, Oh, Mary! 

Leigh plays a prim 19th-century chaperone to first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, whose confession of accidental autoeroticism involving ice cream brings on some of the biggest laughs in what’s been universally hailed as one of the funniest plays in decades, in addition to being named a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
