Gay literary genius and witty wordsmith Oscar Wilde once said, “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” That may be challenging this spring, with dozens of LGBTQ+ titles spanning topics from Shakespeare’s gay romance to a “sick and dirty” historical look at queer visibility in Hollywood.
Book bans continue to send shockwaves through libraries and schools nationwide, but we all know you can’t suppress a literary queen. And for those who are word-adverse, there are plenty of pretty pictures, too, like the latest graphic novel from Michael Curato and a bedazzled biography of “Goddess of Pop” Cher.
