Gabriel Acevero is a fierce queer politician who isn’t afraid to buck the establishment
Gabriel Acevero is a Democratic delegate in one of the most left-leaning states in the country. But that doesn’t mean the queer, Trinidadian-born democratic socialist is carving out a path of least resistance in the Maryland State House.
“The Democratic establishment hates socialist Gabriel Acevero,” wrote the Jacobin, a leftist publication, about the 34-year-old progressive in 2022. “He won re-election anyway.”
Now a veteran lawmaker, Acevero just started his fourth term in the House of Delegates. He represents Maryland’s 39th district, a densely populated and diverse area of Montgomery County located within commuting distance of Washington D.C.
