It’s a well-established truth that not all queer films are created equal. For every Velvet Goldmine or The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love, we tend to a get a deluge of lesser-quality offerings that make us wonder: who is this movie actually for?

Queer TikTokers are taking on this problem with their characteristic passion and dedication, and it’s stirring up quite a bit of discourse on the app and off. It’s no wonder why: we’ve all watched an ostensibly queer film *cough* Blue is the Warmest Color *cough* and left the theater trying to figure out how on Earth it got that classification.
