“It breaks my heart”: Madonna rallies behind Karla Sofía Gascón despite pro-Hitler, anti-Muslim tweets

Madonna has shown support for scandal-hit trans actress Karla Sofía Gascón. 

Gascón plays the title role in the Netflix movie Emilia Pérez. The film had the most Oscar nominations at this year’s Academy Awards. Gascón made history as the first trans actor nominated for Best Actress in a Lead Role. 

However, after the nominations were announced, controversial tweets Gascón posted around five years ago resurfaced. In it, she criticized the response to George Floyd and took aim at Muslims and their impact on Spanish culture.
