Welcome back to our queer film retrospective, “A Gay Old Time.”
Happy start of Pride Month! As it is now tradition with this column, every weekend in June, we’ll be focusing on a particular theme to highlight even more from the canon of queer film throughout the past century.
This year’s theme? Pride Around The World, where we’ll highlight an LGBTQ+ film from outside the United States that has had historical relevance to its home country and beyond, exploring how queerness has been portrayed in film around the globe. To begin, we’ll be traveling to Africa to tackle one of the earliest films to depict homosexuality in that region.
How about we take this to the next level?
