Back in 1984, a then-31-year-old Jeffrey Montgomery and his boyfriend Michael were enjoying a night out just like any other, hitting up one of their favorite gay bars in Detroit.

Then, tragedy struck when Michael was shot outside, dying from the wounds shortly after. Though the incident was identified as an act of anti LGBTQ+ hate, Montgomery was shocked to find that the local authorities were dismissive, unwilling to take the case seriously.

“He was told it was just another gay killing and they don’t have the resources [to put] toward it,” his brother John remembers, “so don’t expect anything from the investigation.”

How about we take this to the next level?
